RMS Literacy Curriculum Research Study Proposal

Erin Meyer, Jason Widiker and Leigh Ann Graf shared a process and timeline for a representative research team to study English/Language Art curriculum and instruction with the goal of assessing existing curriculum and practice against student performance and engagement.  Research on current best practice and vertically aligned standards-based curriculum would also be part of the study over the next several months.  Periodic updates on the progress of the study will be delivered to the Educational Services committee in the event that a recommendation for a new curriculum adoption is forwarded to the Board.  This would take place in March of 2022 with an intended implementation of September 2022.

Apptegy Marketing Updates

Representatives from Apptegy presented an updated the committee on marketing goals and processes as well as the impact of the WUSD’s ad campaign to date.  Upcoming strategic aims include adding additional media channels and highlighting the upcoming open enrollment deadline of April 30.

School-Based Mental Health Grant

Emily Lessner shared progress on the Department of Public Instruction School Based Mental Health Grant.  She and WUSD’s Student Services staff are working through goals and actions steps for what would be a 2-year grant to support on-site mental health services for qualifying students and families.  Some concerns about privacy, the district’s role in leading such efforts, and sustainability as well as quantifying undifferentiated costs were expressed by members of the Committee.  Ms. Lessner and the grant writing team share a full presentation to the Board on April 26.

WUSD Safety Plan Updates

Dr. Schug noted that the Pandemic Planning Team continues to meet to assess and adjust safety protocols when warranted by guidance from health officials and other stakeholders and will do so throughout the coming summer months.

eCampus Updates – Office Location

Dr. Vitale updated the committee on plans to locate offices of some eCampus staff to the vacant space formerly occupied by the WUSD Health Clinic at the Educational Services Center – 111 Dodge St.  The space would also be used for individual and small group student work.  A transition would take place over the summer months.
