As one of 48 states committed to the Common Core State Standards project, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is encouraging educators, professional organizations, and community members to review the first public draft of the Common Core State Standards for English/language arts and mathematics.

Recent discussions among staff at WHS and RMS have led to the identification of the attached grid that links various assessment methods with a particular learning target (or style). The grid is a modification of work on effective classroom assessments by Rick Stiggins, founder of the Assessment Training Institute. Many questions have emerged following the recent news about transitioning from the WKCE to a more balanced assessment system. Linked in the blue box is an FAQ document provided by the Department of Public Instruction that answers many of those questions.
New assessments will surely include items that reflect new state and national standards in the core areas as well.
