AP Exam Season is Here

Each spring, Watertown High School students gear up for Advanced Placement exams that mark the culmination of a year-long journey through rigorous intellectual terrain in a variety of subjects.  As a result, many students  earn college credit and advanced placement, stand out in the college admissions process, and learn alongside skilled, dedicated, and inspiring teachers.

The instructional program contains AP courses in Calculus, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, U.S. History, European History, Economics, Psychology, English Literature & Composition, and Art History.  Watertown students historically have performed successfully on AP exams.  Measurable success is defined by the percentage or students who earn college credit by earning a score of 3 (out of 5) or greater on an exam, which is the threshold established by most colleges.

Kudos to members of the high school staff committed to building programs and maintaining a wide range of curricular options for students.  Consequently, AP offerings and participation has grown steadily over the past several years (see blue box).  In 2009-10, over 130 students signed-up to take approximately 170 exams.  By contrast, 43 students took 60 exams in the spring of 2000 (with a higher enrollment).  More detailed information can be found at the DPI WINSS site on AP scores and other indicators of academic success in Watertown.
