Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for April 14
2008 WKCE Results Review- 

Committee members, Dave Vitale, and Curt Mould reviewed Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam results from the fall of 2008 for students in grades 3-8, and 10. The review included only students in the general population and not isolated results from students in sub groups such as special education or economically disadvantaged. 

The Department of Public Instruction will issue a press release in late April publicizing scores that are currently embargoed.  At this time, district scores will be released and examined against the current Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs) set forth in state law and the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).  Currently, at least 74% of students at each tested grade must reach proficient or advanced status in reading and 58% proficient and advanced status in mathematics to reach the AMOs. 

It was discussed that some subgroups in some schools might not reach these targets, but it remains uncertain whether Adequate Yearly Progress will be reached.   Only schools receiving Title I dollars are potentially impacted by NCLB accountability rules.  Riverside Elementary School, Watertown High School, and Lebanon Elementary School do not receive Title I dollars under the district’s current Title I program plan.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Discussion – This agenda item was tabled until the May 12 meeting.  The administration has been gathering information about MAPs testing in Watertown to help assess for instruction with more instructionally useful information about student performance.
