Educational Services Committee Summary for September 10

Full Day 4K Pilot

Jenny Borst shared the concept of possibly offering one section of full day 4K services for the 2020-21 school year.  The basis for the discussion was to offer options for parents seeking this opportunity through WUSD.  No determination would be made without further detailed plans and potential enrollments shared with the Board of Education in early 2020.  The immediate plan includes visits to communities that serve students in full day 4K programs to learn more.

Draft Technology Plan Review

The Committee reviewed the WUSD draft technology plan that was distributed at the full Board meeting in August.  The plan spans 2019-2023 and is built on the Future Ready Framework that has previously been shared with the full Board of Education.  Many components of the plan reflect current practice in our schools with respect to digital age leadership, as well as blended and personalized learning through course offerings and programs particularly at the secondary level approved by the BOE.

Earth and Space Science Curriculum Discussion: Climate Science:

The Committee briefly discussed the importance of awareness efforts in our schools regarding stewardship and caretaking of the environment and natural resources through efforts to recycle and conserve energy.  Future discussions on this topic will be held at the committee level.  No discussion of new curriculum took place.
