2006-07 Teaching and Learning Goals Review
The following is a review of the initiatives from the Office of Curriculum and Instrution in support of the WUSD Teaching and Learning Goals for 2006-07. Email, call, or visit Dave Vitale with questions.
Content Area Focus: Math and Reading- READ 180 – To implement READ 180 at the middle school hool level through the district’s RAP Program during the 2006/07 school year. Approximately 60 students will engage in instruction using the program this first year. Successfully implemented the program that was reviewed by the district Curriculum Committee in March, 2007

Professional Learning Communities (see below)
Professional Development – Professional development funds will be distributed to teachers and schools for the purpose of supporting professional growth activities that meet school-based goals. Many of these activities will reflect efforts to improve content area instruction as expressed in the goals above.

Problem, Project, and Inquiry Based Learning Goal: To evaluate and modify curricula with the intent of identifying and developing units of instruction that merge critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills with content knowledge. Specific curricular areas will be targeted for curriculum revisions focusing on problem, project, and inquiry based learning.
Objectives: - Developing Resources: To develop frameworks for problem and project based learning that supports the implementation of technology, particularly laptops, in the district. (see below)
- Professional Training: Teachers and administrators will be trained on how to conduct instruction using problems and projects. This includes reviewing the curriculum for opportunities to cover instructional units with more applied strategies rather than strictly lecture, notes, and worksheets. (see below)
