Whatever your opinion of Time Magazine, the recent cover story on teaching and learning in the 21st century reflects a more mainstream focus on issues that educators face today and into the future. 

For the past few years, it's been mostly trade publications and professional journals that have spoken of the need to move education from its current, pre-dominantly Industrial Age, model of operation to one more focused on collaborative Problem, Project, and Inquiry-Based learning.

Concerns about educator burn-out, uncaring students, gaps in curriculum and poor student outcomes lose merit when subsequent discussions fail to consider how the changing landscape of tools and resources must redefine what goes on in schools, not be retrofitted into the current model.
