License Renewal Guide - PDPs
Steps to License Renewal for Initial Educators
License Cycle for an
INITIAL EDUCATOR:Year 1 - Reflect...What are your strengths? Challenges?
What areas of professional growth should you
focus on? Establish professional goals.
Mentors can help with this at the end of year 1.
Year 2 - Convene IET* to review and approve goals by
October 1. Are goals: Measurable? Achievable?
Aligned with Teacher Standards? Tied to student
achievement? Begin working toward goal(s).
A copy of the Goal Approval Form must be submitted to DPI to verify that only certified PDP reviewers are signing off on goals. Updated forms are linked in blue box.
Year 3 - Work toward completing your goal(s). Keep log
log of activities, artifacts, and write an annual
review.
Year 4 - See year 3
Year 5 - Submit completed plan** to IET for review.
* Initial Educator Teams (IET) must consist of a teacher, an adminstrator, and a representative from an institution of higher education (IHE). Each member must be certified with the DPI as a trained reviewer.
** The initial educator may complete his or her PDP in year 3, 4, or 5 of the cycle. Plan can be submitted anytime during the spring semester.
