Alternative Learning Center Visit
The Curriculum Committee met at the District's Alternative Learning Center, 740 N. Church Street, to discuss current and future programming for students aged 15-18 who are identified as At-Risk based on their record of performance at Watertown High School. The Alternative Learning Center (ALC) houses the Competency-Based program for 15-16 year olds, and the GED Option II program for students 17 and older seeking high school credit via satisfactory performance on the GED battery of tests. Watertown High School is one of several schools in Wisconsin that offers the GED in this manner. Melanie Meracle teaches in the GED program at the ALC.
Suzie Mitich teaches the Competency Based diploma program. The program is designed to offer an education option for students who benefit from a smaller and more integrated learning environment, but who are ineligible for the GED program based on age. Both the GED and Competency Based program are at capacity.
