Reading Materials Review-

Committee members reviewed and discussed the rationale and process for selecting a new reading program for the elementary grades.  Included in this discussion was the timetable for making a purchase as well as factors related to current programming and related training.  A team of educators reviewed three programs on May 9 in order to make a recommendation for a program that would complement the district's balanced literacy and guided reading approach.  A final decision will be made in June.   

Charter School Planning Update-

The Committee was informed of recent developments involving the Endeavor Charter School planning process.  The status of the grant application will be known in early August.  Potential teaching staff will be contacted prior to the end of the current school year to determine interest in teaching in the charter school beginning in 2014-15.   2013-14 will be a planning year for lead teachers.

Dave Vitale provided an update on the Curriculum and Instruction teaching and learning goals established at the beginning of the year.
