The Impact of New Testing Targets
As part of several changes to Wisconsin's accountability system for public schools and districts, students will be held to a higher level of performance on state tests beginning in 2012-13. Consequently, fewer students will attain a ranking of proficient or advanced on state tests than in the past.
This new step is part of our state's transition to new student assessments that will help parents and teachers get a more complete picture of each student's learning. Wisconsin will continue to use the WKCE for two more years. However, in 2014-15, the state will switch to the Smarter Balanced assessment system that features more rigorous content and standards. These tests will be taken on a computer and will offer more immediate results.
the lower state test scores expected this year are not a reflection of the abilities of students or teachers, but reflect teh higher targets we have for students and schools. All students and schools across the state will experience the effects of this new system.
Please contact the C&I office if you have any questions or concerns about our higher expectations for students.
