Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for December 13
District Teaching and Learning Goals Update:
The Committee reviewed the Standards Insight tool and its intended use for unpacking and aligning the Common Core State Standards to our local curriculum and assessments. A brief demonstration of how the tool works was given as well as the timeline for completion of the standards alignment process that dates to 2013. The state's new assessment system, scheduled for 2014, will be aligned to the Common Core Standards.
Updates on professional development that support district goals were also given. This discussion focused on current and ongoing efforts that included motivating adolescent readers, the reading-writing connection, mathematics interventions, online learning, and writers workshop.
Curt Mould, Data and Assessment Coordinator, discussed how the district is using math and reading data to inform instruction in our buildings and classrooms.
