Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for October 11
Review of Teaching and Learning Goals
Committee members reviewed and discussed the focus areas of the 2011-12 instructional program. Centered on the theme of future readiness, goals related to growth in reading math using formative assessments, high quality professional development, and curricular alignment to Common Core State Standards were reviewed.
Value Added Growth Models
Value Added was a topic of discussion in the May meeting of the Curriculum Committee and was revisited for the purpose of staying informed about likely changes to the state's accountability system. It is believed that these changes will include Value Added Growth Models that attempt to remove factors related to demographics to adequately measure the "impact of schooling" on student performance. Schools across Wisconsin could see value added reports packaged with the 2011 WKCE results, meaning they'd be available in the Spring of 2012.
