Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for March 13

2012-15 Technology Plan-

Bob Logan, Supervisor of Instructional Technology, highlighted components of the 2012-15 technology plan that's required to be submitted to the state every three years.  The plan contains aspects of software, hardware, training, instruction and budgets that will guide the use and growth of technology and how it impacts teaching and learning.  The committee briefly discussed budget considerations for future technology purchases.  Possible solutions to potential budget limitations include allowing students to bring their own portable devices to be used in school. This option would be studied further to determine implications for network security, tech support, and supervision.

Act 105 -  Physical Education Statute

The Committee reviewed and discussed details about Act 105 which allows a school board to set in policy a provision allowing students participating in sports or other organized physical activities to complete an additional one-half credit in the core academic areas of Health in lieu of a half-credit in physical education.  Board policy currently requires 1.5 credits of physical education for graduation.  The Committee is interested in further examining the possibility of allowing students to have this option.  A future meeting of the Policy Review Committee will be determined so that details and implications can be discussed.  No changes are imminent at this point.
