Reading Program Update-

Data Walls and Progress Monitoring-

Jan Detrie and Gail Kottwitz updated the committee on the use of data walls in our buildings that help chart student progress in reading based on the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System.  The assessment system has been used to standardize district-wide efforts to gauge reading performance and growth for elementary students across the district.  Jan and Gail have been outstanding leaders in this area.

Training and Professional Development-

District elementary teams have dedicated special meetings to dialogue about improving student writing through the reading-writing connection.  Regie Routman in Residence is a training program that literacy teams in our buildings have used to facilitate their meetings.  Feedback and early results have been positive.
