Ed Services Meeting Summary for October 8

Assessment Update

Committee members reviewed details related to new accountability measures, particularly the new Wisconsin Forward exam.  The Department of Public Instruction selected Data Recognition Corporation as the vendor and will soon begin assembling the questions for the spring administration.  The Wisconsin Forward exam will cover Reading/ELA and Math in a computer-based format in grades 3-8. Tests will not be computer-adaptive.  Science and Social Studies will be administered only in grades 4, 8, and 10.

RMS Science Academy

Plans are underway for a second-semester launch of a Inquiry-Based science-centric academy for 8th graders that gauges student progress and mastery of standards and demonstrable competencies in empirical reasoning.  The Academy will take applications from students and parents in December.  The Academy will also recognize learning experiences that connect the disciplines rather than consider them as disconnected subjects.
