Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for September 10

Assessment and Accountability Report:

Members of the committee reviewed the 2012-13 School Report Card for each school and the district’s overall accountability rating.  The report cards are in their second year and are part of the recent changes brought forth by the No Child Left Behind waiver. Performance data is based on the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam and Wisconsin Alternative Assessment.  2013-14 will be the final year for these tests as the state transitions to new computer adaptive tests based on the Common Core Standards for 2014-15.  Future report cards will reflect these and other changes.

Preview of Instructional and Professional Development Fall Timeline:

Upcoming trainings and assessment windows were discussed by committee members.  Included among these is the new reading readiness screener, PALS, that is now being administered to all 4K, K, and 1st grade students.  2nd grade will be added in 2014-15.  Members also discussed training schedules and components of the new elementary reading adoption and Everyday Math.  The Scholastic Reading and Math Inventory assessments begin on September 16 for students ranging from elementary to high school level.

Charter School Planning:

Meetings and timelines for the Endeavor Charter School planning year were discussed, with a goal to have the charter contract presented to the Board of Education in a resolution at its December meeting.
