Curriculum Committee Meeting Summary for January 8

National Honor Society Application Criteria:

Kris Meloy and Emmie Carpenter presented changes to the application criteria for student membership to the National Honor Society (NHS).  The changes primarily reflect a return to a minimum GPA of 3.5 from 3.67.  The higher GPA standard was implemented when WHS's grading scale topped out at  4.3, which it no longer does.  Applications will be available in early February to students who meet the GPA requirement. Students must also demonstrate efforts in leadership and community service to qualify for membership.

2013-14 Course Book Updates:

Agri-science and Foreign Language will offer dual credit courses in conjunction with state university schools for the 2013-14 school year.  Introduction to Environmental Studies will offer 3 transferable undergraduate credits through UW River Falls. Delivery will be both online (80%) and face to face.  Spanish 4 will offer 3 undergraduate credits through UW Green Bay with an opportunity to earn retroactive credits with a grade of B or better.  Admission and tuition requirements must be met for successful enrollment.

The Riverside Middle School course book contains updates to the Technology Education and Family and Consumer Education electives.

The Board of Education will vote to adopt the 2013-14 course book at the January 28 meeting.
