Educational Services Meeting Summary for December 12

Technology Education:  Jesse Domer shared proposals in a new manufacturing pathway consisting of Machine Tool, Welding, and Metal Fabrication as a combined pathway.  Members from the Engineering and Manufacturing Partnership team were also available to share support for the addition of these courses in support of local industry.

Educational Services Committee Meeting Summary for November 15

2017-18 High School Course Proposals

Courses in the English and mathematics departments were proposed.  English 10 - Reading, Writing, and Speaking in the Modern Voice will replace Speech and Composition.  An elective course titled Speech and Drama will be offered to the upper grades. Standards Insight Common Core "Unpacking" Tool

WUSD will soon investigate the usefulness of Standards Insight, a new tool developed by CESA 7 that's designed to help districts dissect the Common Core State Standards (new national standards in Reading, Language Arts, and Math).  If adopted, Watertown educators will use the tool to identifying specific knowledge, skills, vocabulary, understandings, and evidence of student attainment for each standard.  Teams and individuals will work together to examine the standards with the

Everyday Mathematics

Background:

Nearly 50 teachers completed a 4 day workshop in 2007 that focused on CGI Math.  The workshop generated a lot of discussion in each of our elementary schools about current and future mathematics instruction in our district.  Part of this discussion is centered on Everyday Mathematics as a curriculum that promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills in students while developing important foundational skills.

Guidelines for Updating Curriculum and Courses
